Board of Directors Meeting




May 8, 2007


Meeting was called to order at 4:50pm by President, Joyce Dozier.

Minutes of the last meeting of April 10,2007 were read, minutes of special meeting on May 1, 2007 were also read.
Corrections were made as followes to the May 1, 2007 meeting. Motion made by Don Hopes to give committee permission to check out property on Dedeaux Rd and put $5000 down as earnest money. Motion seconded by Ed Guardanapo. Vote was taken. Lynne Logan, Dick Weaver, and Don Hopes abstained. .Joyce Dozier proposed sending out a letter to all the membership to inform everyone on the findings of the building committee. Meeting scheduled for May 17,2007. All agreed and permission was granted.
Motion was then made by Jim Crowe to accept minutes as corrected, seconded by Ed Guardanapo, motion carried.
Lynne Logan gave treasure’s report and passed out balance sheet and Profit/Loss Statement.
Walter Lewis made a motion to accept report as read, seconded by Jim Crowe and motion carried.
Old Business:

Update on Canal Rd property:
Joyce Dozier talked to Rev. Carr about the church buying the Canal Rd property.
His words (Rev. Carr) were " we kind of want too but don't really know". He needs a discussion with church members. He will give us a definite answer next week.

Regional Tournament:
Lynne Logan gave report on the Regional tournament to be held January 28th – February 3rd, 2008. She has signed a contract and put down a deposit that will not be returned. There is a nice meeting area. There will be a free pizza party on Monday night of the opening day. Michael White will have lessons for the 199’er. John and Pat Turner will be 199er's Chairpersons.
150 rooms have been reserved at 2 motels for the event.

Sectional tournament:
Joyce Dozier wants a Sectional tournament in October of 2007. Lynne Logan stated: we need to get a sanction from ACBL. Lynne also suggested we get sanctions for the next 5 years for both sectionals we hold ever year. Joyce Dozier asked for a volunteer and then volunteered Anne Mahaffey. Anne agreed to take care of getting the "sanctions".
Dates for the sectional was discussed. It was suggested October 12-14.
Also discussed a 199 or 299 tournament in March of 2008. Date discussed was around March 17th. Need to avoid Mardi gras time.

Update on Dedaux Rd property was given by Jerry Grissom. Reports were distributed by Jerry Grissom and Ed Guardanapo. Offer of $225,000 was made but realtor said "that was too low, they have had another offer. Awaiting for more information. Discussion followed on City of Gulfport zoning Ordinances. Parking places discussed for sectionals, We need at least 200. Building to hold no more than 400. Property has available space for 123 parking places. Room to add more parking and enlarge building.

Joyce Dozier introduced Bill Cook, Jr. ,District 10 representative to ABCL. He gave a report on ACBL Board of Directors meeting in St Louis on March 5-8,2007.
Mr. Cook also talked about ACBL in general. Walter Lewis asked Mr. Cook about director's for tournaments, costs etc.
Mr. Cook did not know of any director's that travel to do tournament that live closer then Memphis. Something to look into. Bridge classes were discussed.
Motion made by Walter Lewis to adjourn meeting @ 6:00pm,seconded by Jim Crowe.
